A warm, wet pattern is emerging in the current seven-day Vancouver weather forecast.
Temperatures are expected to climb as a warm system moves in off the Pacific, replacing an unsettled atmosphere that caused a snow event and a couple of rounds of flurries in the region in recent days.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Derek Lee told V.I.A. in a previous interview that an unstable air mass was responsible for a "mixed bag" of stormy conditions, including everything from strong winds to thunderstorms to hail.
The warm system coming in off the ocean is expected to bring moisture and milder weather to the region for several days in the region, he noted.
On Thursday, March 7, V.I.A.'s Downtown Centre Weatherhood station calls for a high of 7 C in the city with a mix of sun and cloud during the day followed by a low of 2 C overnight. Rain is also expected to fall through the night (see slide two).
Friday's forecast includes heavy rain throughout the day, with as much as 26 mm of precipitation expected in the downtown area; strong winds gusting up to 20 km/h are also expected. A high of 8 C is expected during the day with a low of 5 C overnight.
The Vancouver weekend weather forecast
Saturday's forecast for Downtown Vancouver includes milder temperatures, with a high of 9 C and a low of 7 C. Heavy rain with amounts up to 30 mm is expected.
While Saturday's daytime high is close to the seasonal average (9.2 C), the overnight low is significantly higher than the typical overnight low (2.6 C), according to Environment Canada's historical climate data.
Sunday is expected to have similar temperatures and plenty of wet weather, with up to 23 mm of precipitation expected.
The warm, wet trend is expected to continue in the region into next week. Temperatures may even reach a double-digit high by next Tuesday.
